Review: Lush Goth Fairy Shimmer Bar - Cruelty Free Skin Care

When I did my Halloween Lush Haul in early October (post here) the wee Goth Fairy bar was one I wasn't sure about reviewing. How would I go about it? Its not like I have anything to judge it against. Then I fell in love with it and wanted to share my thoughts regardless.

Can we start by just discussing how cute this little spookle is? So adorably cute. She a lovely lilac colour and smells a lot like snow fairy, or for those those who aren't familiar with Lush, old school raspberry Calpol. Its really sweet, but also nice. I'm more a fan of earthy, floral or citrus scents, but the Snow Fairy Christmas scent from Lush is one I make an exception for.

So what does it do? It's somewhere between a moisturiser and a body glitter, which I know sounds like something I would not enjoy, but I really do.

Fun fact, I'm writing this post in the background.
As you can see from the photo, I am a) wearing matching pyjamas that have stars on them, and b) my arm is sparkly. That gorgeous smell I mentioned before last a really long time on the skin. It's also moisturising, but not heavy or greasy, and the moisturiser soaks in very, very quickly. Like most of what I mention on this blog, I really like it.

The Lush website states that it has almond oil in it that provides "Hydration for skin and hair". I have a theory you could use it on your hair before a big night out, like the glitter spray you used to get in the late 90's/early 00's. I'm not sure why you would want to do that, but I think you could and it would probably be quite good for your hair. If anyone wants to do that, for science, then please please let me know how it goes.

Lush Ruby Red Slipper Bubble Bar Review - Cruelty Free and Very Bubbly

I love Lush's bubble bars, they're maybe my favourite thing Lush make. Glitter on the other hand, not my favourite ingredient in a bath product. When I saw the Ruby Red Slipper bath bar I was a little curious though, and after talking to one of my friends (who assured me the glitter was no where near as bad as it used to be to clean up) I decided to give it a go.

The smell is hard to describe, its sort of floral but not overly so.  It's a bit like something you might buy your granny, but its not so strong its definitely old lady-ish. It's actually really pleasant.

I always break the bubble bars in two. If not I find they produce way way to many bubbles and the high concentration of bar in the water makes my hair and skin feel oily after I get out. It's something I'd recommend doing, you get twice the bath for your buck and as you'll see from the photos below, it doesn't stop you getting a huge volume of bubbles.

So so many bubbles....

And again... Some of the ones at the back caught loose particles of the bar when they were forming.  A quick swish got them back in the water though.

It made the water a light red colour. If I'd put in the whole bar the colour might have been stronger, but any more bubbles and I think the bathroom would have been filled with bubbles, not just the bath. It also made the water sparkly, which in my head I wasn't crazy about, however it was actually kind of fun to watch it swirl when I moved.

The glitter was also remarkably easy to clean up. I remembered having to frantically scrub the tub before but it wiped off really easily. I think they might have made it finer than before, or done some natural, seaweed based magic to it to make it easier to clean.

(I've removed the bath show option as its not really relevant to bubble bath, which is just bubbly)

Overall, I really like this bubble bar. I don't know if I'll buy more, there are four bubble wands in the Christmas collection I want to try (I already have two, Jester and Santasaurus) so I'll keep it in mind for later.

Lush Autumn Leaf Bath Bomb Review with Photos- Cruelty Free Body Care

(Firstly let me apologise for the quality of the photos. My laptop is broken so I'm going between phone and small tablet, it's not fun but you gotta do what you gotta do.)

I recently did a massive Lush haul, full of lots of their awesome limited edition Halloween products (which can be checked out here) and thought it might be fun to test a couple and give you my honest thoughts.

I already tested the Monsters Ball bath bomb (link to that post) and that review was really well recieved, so I thought I'd reviews this one for you as well.

In terms of looks this bath bomb is a thing of beauty. I sometimes feel the cutesy bath bombs from Lush can look a little bit childish, especially if I'm buying them as a gift for someone older than me (say Mammy Scruff for example). The leaf shape feels quite sophisticated by Lush standards and the bright colours keep it fun.

As for the smell. I wasn't completely sold on it but it does get more appealing the more you sniff.

Bonus photo to show you the side. Look at the hidden red there.

And now onto how it looks in the bath. I wanted a show and this little guy delivered.

This bar was so pretty when it was dissolving, sadly the colours werent really that pleasant once it was done. Unlike Monsters Ball which left the water bath water amazing colours, the red and yellow tones mixed together to create a flat burnt yellow colour. I was not a fan, bathing in yellow water doesn't appeal at all (or obvious reasons). I just kept thinking of an episode of Sons of Anarchy that really grossed me out and I ended up cutting this bath a little shorter than planned. Sorry Lush.

Smell wise, it was amazing though. That magic eight sniff I mentioned in the haul post, bliss. If only I was able to work past the bathwater colour issue.

Bath cleanliness wise, just as easy to clean up after as the other one. I feel like Lush may have changed their formula as I remember them being a pain in the butt to clean off the bath before. All it took was a quick wipe to remove some excess pigment and the bath was good to go. My skin felt the same too, soft anf moisturised but not oily or greasy.

I'm probably not going to buy it again. I'd much rather get something like Monsters Ball and I've learned a lesson about things that dissolve to yellow. I am worried about what the pumpkin one will do in the bath now as I am in love with the smell of that. We'll see I guess.

Lush Monsters Ball Bath Bomb Review with Photos - Cruelty Free

(Firstly let me apologise for the quality of the photos. My laptop is broken so I'm going between phone and small tablet, it's not fun but you gotta do what you gotta do.)

I recently did a massive Lush haul, full of lots of their awesome limited edition Halloween products (which can be checked out here) and thought it might be fun to test a couple and give you my honest thoughts.

I'm no stranger to Lush and, want to start this by saying, I'm not usually a huge one for the bath bombs. I love the bubble bars, specifically the huge ones (Brightside, The Comforter, Blue Skies). I used to have a real soft spot for the Rose Jam Bubbleroons too, but since they added the glitter I've not repurchased it. Scrubbing glitter out the bathtub really isn't my favourite activity.

Anyway, that being said, it's been about 9 months (ish, not really keeping that close a count) since I last used a bath bomb so I'm really excited to try these.

Look at this little guy, he's so cute and pink and mines missing an ear, so I think that makes him even cuter. As I mentioned in the haul post he smells amazing. Fresh but also clean and sweet. I checked the website and it says he's packed with Lime and Neroli oils and Cocoa butter.  Much love for this scent, if they made a bubble bar or shower gel that smells like this I would never stop using it.

Now onto how it looks in the bath. If I'm going to pay the price of a bath bomb, for something I can only use once, you better believe I want a show. At £4.25 this cost about four times what my usual bottle of Superdrug bubble bath does and I get like 20+ baths out of that.

And Monsters Ball doesn't disappoint. I know that's probably quite a lot of photos but A) the lighting in my bathroom isn't very good for photos and I wanted to actually do it justice, and B) I feel like the bath changed colour a lot and I wanted to show you the pink to blue to purple water.

It should be noted that I have a crazy huge bath, I can sit cross legged in it and the brim is level with my armpits , it's maybe my single favourite thing about my Flat. So if yours holds less water then the colours maybe more intense than they were in mine.

It made the whole bathroom smell amazing, and after my bath I could still smell it on my skin. My skin also felt soft and moisturised but not greasy, filmy, or unclean the way some bath bombs do. There also wasn't any of the oily film on top of the bath water like some of the other moisturising bath products leave which was great, both for my overall feeling of post bath cleanliness and the cleanliness levels of the bath itself. All this bath bomb left to clean up was a couple of streaks of pinky pigment that hadnt dissolved properly, so a quick rinse and wipe and that's it. Great product, minimum cleanup.

Overall score as follows (yes, I came up with a scoring system)

Look 4/5
Smell 5/5
Bath show 4/5
Skin Feel 5/5
Minimal Cleanup 5/5

Yeah OK, I gave it a super high score but I really like it. I may get a couple more to squirrel away for special occasions. I still think I may prefer the smell of the Pumpkin, just, but I feel this probably gives a more fun Lush bath experience. I'm so torn, I'll test the Pumpkin and get back to you on the winner.
